JAISALMER / 金色之城杰伊梅尔 : We took the over-night bus from Udaipur to Jaisalmer - got tossed out of the bus during the middle of the night out of nowhere, then got thrown into some other bus which we were not certain where it headed, then the bus finally stopped at some place which in no way that could be a bus stop ... Tuk Tuk drivers wearing sand-color poncho told us, you are in Jaisalmer, this is desert. It was weird - just like everything we've been through in India. It was weird. Somehow Jaisalmer turns out to be quite interesting. It's the last living castle in Rajesthan where people are still practically living their lives in the old castle, the way they did hundreds of years ago. We did enjoy the shopping environment, friendly and natural, not ridiculously over-pricing just because we are foreigners, our guest house has one of the best hot water that we experienced in India - just the thing you need after touring in desert city, and the food - our host made the best fried noodle ever, we just couldn't have enough of it. We took a half day trip to the desert, you know, sand everywhere, big camel that farts along the way, sun falling into the horizon, cloud written on sky like burning ... you get the gist. Our camel guide in desert is a 13 year old boy with eyes wiser beyond years, not necessarily intelligent, but definitely wiser.

JAIPUR / 粉色之城斋普尔 : Jaipur, capital city of Rajasthan - actually I first learn the name from territory assignment of my team, thought the name was pretty middleeast. Jaipur was known as the Pink City. The whole city was painted in pink as a welcome gift for one king to marry his un-met future wife - what if she's into black (like me) I couldn't help but wonder. The city was awesome, city palace, amber fort, and that palace on the lake ... the city was (relatively) neat and organized and a lot civilized than Agra and Varanasi. More importantly, my super cool boss recommended the place, no better reason to visit there isn't it. :)

VARANASI / 恒河之瓦拉纳西 : Varanasi is one of its own kind, it's the place you just have to visit for whatever reason - the old small town with maze-like alleys and absolute worship to Gange the mother river and all the holy spirit it represents. It's unlike anything we have ever seen, the alleys so tiny that would be blocked just by a cow - not to mention cow dung (or dog dung, or horse or donkey ... really difficult to tell) that basically lies everywhere along side of the garbage. People walking around with a red mark drew between their eyebrows as a symbol of praying for safeness, even though most of them didn't at all attend school during childhood, they struggled their way to survive, maybe safety is the most one would hope for. Puja ceremony is incredible. Followers from around the world gathered around the alter where priests performing routined ritual. For visitors like us, with all the songs and rings and smokes and fire, the whole process is quite difficult to understand, maybe we were more curious in seeking novelty than praying to Gods we didn't really know much about. But when people prayed when bells started to ring, when they closed their eyes and put their palms together, you could just feel the power of belief, the sacredness of the ceremony. In the morning when the sun rises, people came to the Gange's river side, bathing and praying. Dogs peeing in the river, birds flying in sun's reflection, cows walking around in the most relaxing manner. You just couldn't help but wonder, why don't people want to change all this, to have a cleaner shower, to have a quieter street ... I figure, maybe, this is the power of belief, and underneath it, the most power and peaceful heart that lies within everyone lives here. They are used to the environment, they believe the magical connection between nature and human life, the connection is spiritual, it's deep, it's something God given that you would never understand until you truly believe. They don't need designer clothes, fancy cars, good jobs or skyscrapers to prove the value of life, the very existense of every single breath is the best evidence. Time freezes in Varanasi, and it also moves along in Varanasi. The good thing is, at some point of time, we were once there, in the town of Varanasi.

AGRA / 泰姬陵与红堡 : This was our first stop in India. Agra, in which town sits the wonder I've been dreaming of visiting for years, Taj Mahal. The thing about Taj Mahal, it's just so unbelievably magnificent from all possible aesthetic and architecture angle, the building as a whole in real life, was a lot more stunning than any picture I've seen of, and much more spectacular than the ones I took of. We spent a whole day there, from dawn to dusk, we hated when security kicked us out after sun set because it was still not enough. The whole thing was a beauty of perfection that you would never want to walk away from. Red Fort was okay - not so much attraction comparing to other forts we visited in later days. Though it was fun walking in down the corridor wearing saree and punjab and got stared at too much by Indian strangers, till this day we didn't even know whether we should feel good or bad about the stare. And this was only the beginning of our great journey in the country known as the Incredible India.

SYDNEY / 悉尼之旅 : It's my second trip to Sydney. For me, the city's a bit like Leonardo DeCaprio from Titanic (not later darker ones), young, full of energy, eye's crystal clear like Sydney's typical blue sky, somewhat careless and intangible, but you'd just melt in the sunshine when he smiles. (For the record, I'm not really fond of DeCaprio's baby face with a mustache attached on it. Just thought he'd make a good example. ^0^)

When you are single, you tend to ignore those special occasions that made you realize you don't have someone to hold your hand. But when you are used to being single, you'll just forget there's still certain special occation. (God I have issues ... ) But it was fun. Hanging out with colleagues after work, meeting up for a drink, sharing some laughs and anecdotes. What more does one want from life when there's friendship?

FORBIDDEN CITY / 故宫 : Palace Museum. So big and magnificent, every pillar or stepping stone reveals some kind of a glory and pride that never fades as time goes by. Well, maybe that's not entirely true. We are no longer a feudal society now, no empires or need for thousands of room to accommodate his polygamy. But for me, somehow the whole palace represents a gesture that will constantly remind people what a strong and powerful nation it once lived in, what devastating and heartbreaking tragedy it once witnessed. One dynasty rised when the old one fell, one empire ruled it all when his predecessor left forgotten, one legend lived on in books and songs while the unsung heroes long buried underneath the wall ... the palace was our last heritage to remember - what brought us thus far, and where we will bring it in the days to come.

PATTAYA / 芭堤娅 : I could never understand the attaction of Thailand. Not so religious like India, not so modernized like Singapore, not so historic like Cambodia, not so beautiful like Switzerland (sorry I'm not a beach person), and things I watched from Hangover II was just disturbing and definitely not somewhere I could ever find appealing. Then we arranged kickoff in Pattaya, which just totally pissed me off as I so wanted it to be in New Zealand. It was an interesting place, expected humidity and cold drink, cheap but incredibly delicious food, not-so-bright-and-shiny-but-hurt-your-feet beach and jetski's excitement, one bar next to each other, multinational strip clubs, people with serious gender-delusional issue, lots of old bad-looking westerners walking on street holding hands with local girls who are not necessarily young or attractive. My colleague kind enough took me to one of the floating markets, local business women just sitting in their boats cooking meat or eggs for selling, tourists come and go with gratifying smile on their faces, one look from that middle-east little girl just melt my heart... and the Tiffany Show, one of the most stunning burlesque shows I have ever seen, the ladies on stage, sadly, they don't look sad anymore. It's amazing how things could suddenly look familiar within just a few days, walking in and out of the hotel when those staffs greets you hello with sincerity, I couldn't even feel like walking on a foreign land. I guess that's the beauty about Thailand, it's so tolerant and diversified, you can easily blend in and start over with your life. It creates a parallel universe before you even notice, then you just get lost in there so naturally, like everyday starts at 11am and finish at 4am, like food should go down with cocktail, like your blackberry's used to text sweet messages with your lovers not to check email, like you can just lie by the pool, getting tanned, sleep off the whole afternoon ... And another stunning fact is, after the Pattaya trip, I suddenly realized how much I love my job and just couldn't wait to get back to work. Now that I'm thinking about this, I was probably like a lost child who suddenly found her way back home. Wonderland was great, yet home's the real deal.

ANGKOR THOM / 大吴哥 : Angkor Thom was built by the mighty legendary Khmer King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th century. It's the last capital of that prime time, and indeed the epic wonder reflected in its name a 'Great City'. On some level, I think Angkor Thom functioned as Palace Museum, whereas Angkor Wat as Temple of Heaven. But the difference is we have tens of empirers spent hundreds of year building the palace that represents their regime and authority, Jayavarman VII did it in only 10 years, and he did it much bigger and better. Hundreds of carved stone face reveals absolute power and control, also exudes a slight hint of humanity, the two qualities needed to govern such a vast empire. The pictures here cover all crucial parts in Angkor Thom: the South Gate, Bayon, Baphuon, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas and Terrace of Elephants. I didn't made it to the Terrace of the Leper King, our tourist guide said the king's sculpture looked like a giant toad, and it gave me goose bumps even till this day.

PREAH KHAN & TA PROHM / 圣剑寺与塔布隆寺 : Preah Khan (Sacred Sword in Khmer language) was another masterpiece from Jayavarman VII times, dedicated to his father the Jayavarman VI and served as his temporary residence, a bit like Windsor Castle. Few visited, Preah Khan is one of the largest and most complex temples in Angkor, flooded with maze-like vaulted corridors, porches, intricate nymph carvings and lichen-clad stoneworks. Personally, I like how they preserved the color of the wall, a combination of light green, pink and brown really gave the ruins a mysterious atmosphere of romance. Ta Prohm is totally the opposite. Jayavarman VII built this buddism temple to honor his beautiful mother, but it was then left to rot, to be swallowed by the jungle, delicately carved stone blocks are now dislodged by the roots of long-decayed trees, which gave it semi-raw (comparing to Beng Mealea) and yet more unique and naturally masculine look. A quote from one piece of traveler's guide: there's a poetic cycle to this venerable ruin, with humanity first conquering nature to rapidly create, and nature once again conquering humanity to slowly destroy. Ta Prohm was famous for its stunning appearance in Tomb Raider when Angelina Jolie left her smoking sexiness over the giant roots. As for me, I had some of my favorite work taken at Ta Prohm. And that's what made this trip worthwhile.

BANTEAY SREI / 女王宫 : The art gallery of Angkor, Banteay Srei is considered by many to be the jewel in the crown of Angkorian artisanship. A Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva, it is cut from stone of a pinkish hue and includes som eof the finest stone carving seen anywhere on earth. Banteay Srei means 'Citadel of the Women', true to the name, the temple was the creation of female, elaborate carvings and lavishedly decorated libraries are just so fine and unbelievably focused on details. Built before 10th century, Banteay Srei is one of the smallest sites among all Angkor Temples, and yet what it lacks in size it makes up for in stature.

BENG MEALEA / 崩密裂 : Beng Mealea was built in 12th century under Suryavarman II regime, a spectacular sight with endless ruins, hidden paves, mixed roots, dark chambers, collapsed wall and broken sandstone blocks. Climbing through Beng Mealea was quite an Indiana Jones type of experience, nothing's perfected, anything's possible. Jungle consumed this once amazing temple, yet the Red Khmer did the best of their work here as well: Play God, then destroy everything else. Three children were playing aside me when I was walking outside, one from China, the other two are local. I watched them playing sand, running and jumpping, sharing a good laugh together ... somehow I still feel sad, they don't understand, and probably never will, among them only one will grow up with the promise of a bright future, and when she left, the other two kids will still go back to the ruins, smiling and posing for tourists in exchange for candy. Future is nowhere to be found.

ANGKOR OTHERS / 其它吴哥建筑群 : Other Angkor temples briefly visited during the trip: Ta Som (塔逊将军庙), East Mebon (东梅奔), Banteay Kdei (班代卡蒂寺), Bakheng (巴肯山), Prasat Kravan (涅磐寺), Pre Rup (比粒寺), Banteay Samre (班代瑟马寺), Roluos (罗洛寺群). Each temple has its merits and memories to recollect for a long long time. The 12 year old girl at Ta Som who could count in 12 languages, dry land of East Mebon, super-skinny cow at Banteay Kdei, magnificant sunset on top of Bakheng, beautiful carving at Kravan, Pre Rup the 'turning of the body' where all Khmer kings were cremated, elegant dark color at Banteay Samre, and the orghans at Roluos... Unfortunately I was just a careless observer. Assembling all pictures together, knowing I was once there, and I will be back someday.

PHUKET / 普吉岛 : I just can't believe my first trip to Phuket was with 80+ other people, from work, for business. The intensive meeting arrangement totally ruined my innocent intention of just ... going to the beach, let sea water dancing on my toes, and take a picture or two. Instead, I had to snuck out of the meeting room when my boss's on stage, boosting the importance of xLoB cooperation. Please ... we would be lucky if those OCS guys didn't chew on our flesh and spit out our bones. (And please nobody tell my boss I snuck out, or he'd chew and spit my bone himself ...) Though I did get to meet Bill finally, after four years' remote communication. July, 2007, he made one bold decision by recruiting me into the team, being his first sales rep in China, and the youngest sales rep hired in the company in the past 10 years. I was only 24 back then, not a trainee or temp contractor, but equally juvenile. Later he told me even he thought it was a risky move in the first place, but everyone deserves a chance, and he decided to give me mine, for which, I am eternally and deep deeply grateful. For four years I fought hard for every deal I committed, and I finally got to close the deal he started before hiring me. There's still a lot of growing up for me to do, but I just knew I had to do everything to pay him back, to show him my gratitude in a way we both would appreciate. In Phuket, when I was transferred, or 'promoted' to the new position where I'm no longer needed to shed blood in the battlefield, I was almost burst into tears when Bill said he was rather disappointed when I agreed to the transition, since he was always convinced that I was a good sales rep and would make a truly great one. I didn't say anything. I hate the fact that I can no longer be a frequent traveler. I hate it when China team treats me like a damn secretary with no respect. I hate that I have to sit in front of my iMac everyday doing sheets and slides and that my shoulders hurt every day and night. I hate the fact that I only agreed to the job in the first place only because I had such a crush on my boss since the first day I met him who's incredibly charming and intelligent also so emotional and arrogant and distant and bitchy who wouldn't even take me into his report line... But there are no more words. I'm not good at complaining and I don't like being needy. For Bill, I just looked him in the eye and told him how sincerely grateful I really am for all the respect and dignity he gave me, and that's all it matters.

SINGAPORE & BINTAN / 新加坡与民丹岛 : The end of FY11, planning session, celebration of the great outcome after a whole year of hardwork, the brightest hour before the darkest moment coming in the next fiscal year. I'm not a big fan of Singapore - probably it's because I'm never good with humidity, or it simply looks too familiar as every other large giant cities in the world which makes it lack of its particular character. Truth be told, I could easily get bored when the similarity and replacability is overwhelming. But hey, that was a fruitful meeting, sunshine, golden beach, blue sky, sparkling city at night, plus meeting all my colleagues whom I only knew via email before that May ... more importantly, it had been a long long time before I got to take this Singapore and Bintan trip. God I love traveling!

JIU ZHAI GOU / 九寨沟 : The trip wasn't fun. First it was a department meeting - booooring, then the weather sucked the big time - summer green green green mixed with heavy rain and grey sky, no interesting color combination whatsoever, and third, our tourist guide put a 2.5 hour time limit on a 7KM walk in the park which totally freaked me out - don't whip me while I'm thinking about the angle, lady! And yet even so, Jiu Zhai Gou was indeed beautiful. With cold raindrops ruined most of my photos and almost destroyed my lens, I still did what my photography teacher told me to: make the best out of an impossible situation (wow, what a self-important bitch!). And a hat tip to Michelle for taking so many great pictures of mine. No make up, no disguise, isn't that just great.

LI JIANG / 丽江 : I think Lijiang is a little bit overrated. I was never big fan of crowded streets with cheap shoppers and crazy bargains everywhere, and that was exactly what's flooded through the alleys in Lijiang, the so-called Old Town. Well, actually this is unfair. The town was quite old indeed, non-polluted clear sky, warm but never burning sunshine and lazy tenor was said to be the amazing healing factors to calm ones mind, and those pitchy roads and wooden cabins reeked some sort of antique look that is most attractive to 3 types of people: Sweet lovers, desperate loners, or pathetic 30 year old losers who simply enjoy a pure absence of mind. Well, for me, all these would be true if Lijiang hasn't been over-developed into a tourist center, bars stood in the place of old wells, silver jewelries were ripped into cheap copies, delicate handmade poncho turned out to be produced in a product line. I understand people living there need to 'keep pace with the time', but please, stop once in the while, to look back and see how far you've gone and what you've become. On the other hand, Shangrila was a much better place for me. It was my first time there to start with, and I genuinely prefer the raw nature as it was meant to be.

JINGSHANLIN GREAT WALL / 金山岭长城 : Okay I admit. I'm a sucker for anything (or anyone) that's aged with a sophisticated look and a bad-ass attitude. Sights of seeing, old books, cars, and men. Jian Shan Lin Great Wall is about 200KM to the north of Beijing. Original, raw and distant with stairs and beacon towers unrenovated, just the way I like it. It was interesting to go there with a former customer executive, close friend of mine who digs photography and more importantly, who owns a Nikon D700, which I was so jealous of that I could just push him over the wall to rob him of his camera. The weather was fantastic. Afternoon sunshine, slight rain dropped out of blue, followed with a beautiful stunning rainbow lying across the sky. The last two pictures of mine were taken by the famous photographer Mr. Zhou Wanping, whose masterpieces of the Great Wall have been widely exhibited all over the world. I didn't know until that day that Mr. Zhou himself actually lived on the Great Wall, he ate there and slept there and walked around everyday to observe, and to catch every scene at every priceless moment. 'I am just a farmer who happen to be persistent.' Mr. Zhou said, with a calm, modest look on his face. That is particularly inspiring.

For the same reason I'm not particularly satisfied with the pictures taken there, especially when you look back and only to realize how childish or inexperienced the way I handled them. However you can't change your past, the best way to get over it is to learn from your failure, then move on. And that's what I'm doing.

Jenny Liu/ 嘉嘉一家人 : Jenny's one of my closest friends. Well, I don't have many friends to begin with, some I lost touch, some I purposedly or unintentionally drove away. But Jenny's different. Being a water sign Libra she's more neutral and gentle, intelligent but not calculative, judgemental but not on me. I like that about her. I was there when Jenny's kid was born. The pink small creature covered with twinkles totally bumped me out. I guess I could never understand that magic connection between a woman and a baby, nor could I really love a child the way people say I ought to. I like things that are logical and stable, obviously children are neither. But Jenny's kid's indeed adorable. I watched that tiny thing grow bigger and whiter from the first moment, getting cuter by the minute, sometimes when he smiled at me showing his tongue with no teeth, I do feel warm inside, and it's really funny watching him burst into tears the minute he saw my newly-dyed red hair. Though I still have no clue how to hold him properly so that he wouldn't feel like a football and I wouldn't look like an idiot, I know I like the kid with all my heart.

Self Portraits / 自己 : Just to share a piece of little story here. There was a time when my dad saw me staring at myself in a mirror and said ... 'I'm gonna tell you two facts here: One, ugly people don't deserve looking into a mirror, and Two, you are one of them.' I was 6 years old then. Ever since I wasn't even dare to stand in front of a mirror, coz I was afraid to look at the ugly girl that my dad said I was, while girls at my age were wearing skirts, taking up dancing class and being pretty. Many years later when I grew up enough to become the breadwinner of the family (or let's say old enough to challenge my dad's authority) I confronted him, and my dad told me he merely meant to get me to spend more time on books rather than looks, and yet somehow the word just came out wrong. It all doesn't matter anymore. What's done is done, I am who I am right now and in actuality I'm okay with it - Still not pretty, nor getting wiser while getting older. Still making stupid judgement or repeated mistakes along the way, nowhere near the definition of perfection as my father always wanted me to be. But if you ask me how I feel now, well, so far so good. :)
